The US Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) recognize 6 distinct educational regions, each of which is overseen by a different accrediting body. The North Central Region covers the largest geographical area, comprising the 19 states of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia. The quality of degree-granting Hebrew, Rabbinical & Talmudic colleges in this region is monitored through both the Association of Advanced Rabbinical and Talmudic Schools (AARTS) and accreditation by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCACS).
